چکیده

Taitz, L. S., and Byers, H. D. (1972). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 47, 257. High calorie/osmolar feeding and hypertonic dehydration. Analysis of the sodium content of milk taken from bottles brought by mothers to feed their babies while waiting in the postnatal clinic indicates that the tendency to use excessive amounts of milk powder in feeds is widespread. The effects of high solute/calorie feeding on osmolar loading, water intake, and urinary volume, and its potential risk are discussed. In 3 cases of hypertonic dehydration the feeds given to the infants had contained

Solute and calorie loading in young infants: short- and long-term effects.

The short report on page 749 'Growth and Milk Intake of Normal Infants' by Evans once again raises the question of the shortand long-term effects of different forms of milk intake in early infancy. In the early 1970s attention was drawn to the consequences of high-solute milk feeding in early life, with the focus on two particular issues. (1) Did high solute feeding and its possible associated ...

The osmotic thresholds for thirst and vasopressin release are similar in healthy man.

The relationship between thirst perception and plasma osmolality was studied during hypertonic and physiological saline infusion in ten healthy volunteers. Thirst perception was quantified using a linear visual analogue scale which volunteers marked at intervals during the infusion periods. Infusion of hypertonic saline caused a steady rise in plasma osmolality together with a progressive linea...

Differential suppression of hyperglycemic, feeding, and neuroendocrine responses in anorexia.

We have used the anorexia shown by rats given hypertonic saline to drink to investigate central mechanisms that can inhibit feeding. Rats dehydrated in this manner for 3 or 5 days showed a severe attenuation of the compensatory feeding observed after an overnight fast compared with control euhydrated rats or rats whose food was restricted to match the intake of anorexic rats. Food intake after ...

The Effect of Maternal High-Fat Feeding on Energy Homeostasis in Stressed Adult Male Rat Offspring

Introduction: In the present study the effect of chronic maternal high-fat diet consumption on energy homeostasis and glucose metabolism in response to chronic stress was investigated in adult male rats. Materials and Methods: Female rats were divided into two groups of normal and high fat diets. Each group received their diet from 3 weeks before pregnancy until the end of lactation. At 8 weeks...

Comparison of maternal and neonatal characteristics of neonates with dehydration fever and healthy infants

Background: dehydration fever is a common problem during the first week of life. This study aimed to compare the characteristics of neonates with fever due to dehydration and healthy infants. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 324 neonates including 120 neonates with normal body temperature and 204 neonates with fever due to dehydration (hyperthermia) referred to Ghaem Hospit...
